  General Job Description
  Curriculum development and training work at a professional level involving the development, implementation, and evaluation of law enforcement training at the Vermont Police Academy for the Criminal Justice Training Council. Assignments of specific trainer may relate largely to a specific program although involvement may be throughout all program areas. Duties include supervision students and faculty for each incoming class both on the basic and in-service level, preparing and delivering classroom instruction, supervising contractual agreements, lesson plans, and coordination of special projects relating to the development of the training facility. Extensive liaison occurs with department managers and staff, adjunct faculty contractual parties, and students. Work is performed under the direction of the Criminal Justice Training Council Executive Director.
  Minimum Qualifications
  KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of accident and criminal investigation methods and techniques.

Knowledge of individual and group dynamics.

Knowledge of motor vehicle and criminal laws.

Knowledge of legal documents and their use.

Ability to learn and acquire skill in the preparation of curricula lesson plans, examinations, and methods of evaluating student progress.

Competence in the use of firearms.

Ability to personally demonstrate and conduct physical education exercises.

Ability and willingness to attend and successfully complete advanced law enforcement and law enforcement training courses.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and two years of full-time law enforcement experience.

OR

Associate's degree and four years of full-time law enforcement experience.

OR

High School Diploma and five years of full-time law enforcement experience.

Note: Must be certified, or eligible for certification, as a full-time Vermont law enforcement officer.

Note: Must pass and maintain physical training assessment at 40th percentile per Cooper Standards.

  Working Conditions
  Duties are performed largely in an office and classroom setting. Private means of transportation must be available for required in-state and out of state travel. Incumbents must be able to work during periods from 5:00 a.m. to as late as 10:00 p.m. at a minimum, and occasionally on weekends and overnights. Incumbents must be capable of participating as leaders in physical training programs and be able to perform necessary exercise drills.

Bradford Police Department:
Patrol Officer

The Town of Bradford is accepting applications for a full-time patrol officer position.  We are seeking an energetic, positive thinking, service oriented police professional with a strong desire to provide quality police services to a small town community. The Bradford Police Department has a strong support base from the community, the Police Commission, as well as the Select Board that governs its operations.

The successful candidate must possess the following minimum requirements: be at least 21 years of age, possess exceptional moral character and ethics, be certified or certifiable as a police officer by the VT Criminal Justice Training Council (VCJTC), must be able to perform all essential functions of the job. Preference will be given to those applicants that are currently certified (full or part time) through the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council. A great opportunity for a part time certified officer to become full time certified. However, those without certifications are encouraged to apply.

Fair Haven Police Department
School Resource Officer

 

The Fair Haven Police Department is currently accepting applications and resumes for a school resource officer. This position is located at the Fair Haven Union High School. This position may also include Patrol functions during vacations and summer break.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience working with juveniles and or within an educational environment, have 5 or more years of law enforcement experience, and be willing to have a flexible work schedule. This position within the school would ideally require a three year commitment. The school is committed to this program. BENNINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT:
POLICE OFFICER

(Detective Division), bicycle patrol, snowmobile patrol, S.T.A.R.T., School Resource Officer, and a Special Response Team.  The Department also actively participates in many community-oriented events.

This is a Union position with starting wage, after probationary period is complete, in the $40,000 bracket and enters a step system per Union contract.  Pay is augmented by occasional overtime and special-duty opportunities.  In addition, those holding EMT certification, Associate, Bachelor or Master’s degrees in law enforcement work are eligible for an additional yearly stipend of up to $500.  The Town of Bennington offers three personal holidays, vacation time increasing to six weeks depending on years of service, participation in the Vermont Municipal Employees Retirement System Plan C, life insurance, twelve paid sick days, ten paid holidays, short term and long term disability.  Employees may also choose to participate in a variety of plans which include an excellent BCBS health insurance program, 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, and a dental plan as well as several other programs.  In addition, for full-time officers participating in the health care plan, the Town has recently added the opportunity for those retiring at 55 with 20 years of service to continue coverage with the Town contributing 50% of the cost of a single  person plan (with certain stipulations) until reaching the age of 65.

Requirements:  U.S. citizen, minimum age of 21; must have a valid driver’s license; high school diploma (college degree preferred). Applicant must be able to perform all the essential functions involved with police duties.  Police testing, including a physical fitness examination, polygraph, oral board, medical exam, fingerprint check and extensive background check will be required of applicants selected for hire.  Preference shall be given to VT-certified officers.  All shifts, weekends and holiday work is a must when scheduled.
